ZOMG the New Captain America: Civil War Trailer Features Spider-Man

LESS THAN TWO months away from the release of Captain America: Civil War, the kickoff to Phase Three of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there’s now another full-length trailer that reveals even more about the schism that will play out in multiplexes for the next few years. It may have Cap’s name in the title, but this shapes up like an ideological two-hander, a showdown between Iron Man (Robert Downey, Jr.)—working alongside the government—and Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) breaking away from regulation in order to protect his friend Bucky, aka the Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan). The human consequences of fantastical heroic battles are also at the forefront in the beginning montage, as Cap and Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) watch the trail of destruction left behind in AvengersThe Winter Soldier, andAge of Ultron.
The trailer opens with Steve saying, “This job … we try to save as many people as we can. Sometimes that doesn’t mean everybody.” He could be referring to Bucky, or innocent civilians, or any of the heroes who end up on the other side of this conflict. But instead of being an entirely dour affair—there’s a lot of gloomy emoting about breaking up the team and who should be worried—Tony Stark continues his streak of injecting comic relief to balance the tone.
There have been plenty of open secrets throughout production about who may or may not appear in Civil Warleading up to the 68-character melee that will be Infinity War. But this trailer ends with unequivocal confirmation that the newly cast Spider-Man (Tom Holland)—who Downey helped cast—will make an appearance in a climactic battle. Civil War is now officially the longest film the Marvel Cinematic Universe so far, but with this many heroes we want to see on screen, it looks like the Russo brothers needed every minute of it.
Pause at: 0:12 to see The Winter Soldier in his full getup after being unfrozen somewhere in an Arctic military bunker. 1:08 to see Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman) chasing down Bucky on a motorcycle. 1:12 to see Tony turn a wristwatch into one of his Iron Man blasters. 1:51 to see Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision (Paul Bettany) fighting with their powers. 1:54 to see Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) and Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) teaming up. 1:56 to catch a glimpse of Crossbones (Frank Grillo). 2:09 to see both teams lined up against each other—Iron Man, War Machine (Don Cheadle), Vision, Black Widow, and Black Panther on one side, Falcon (Anthony Mackie), Ant-Man, Hawkeye, Cap, Scarlet Witch, and the Winter Soldier on the other; 2:18 to see Spider-Man slyly steal the most iconic piece of weaponry in the film.
